OKAKA Football Academy has launched a new community outreach program designed to bring football development opportunities to underserved communities across Lagos State. The initiative delivers free coaching clinics, equipment donations, and talent identification sessions directly to young players who might otherwise never access structured football training.
The program's first phase is running in three Lagos communities, where academy coaches are conducting weekly football clinics for children aged 8 to 15. Each clinic covers fundamental technical skills, small-sided games, and important life lessons around discipline, teamwork, and healthy living.
Every participating child receives access to football equipment provided by the academy and its partners, including training balls and bibs. The clinics are designed to be fully inclusive, welcoming boys and girls of all skill levels, and placing equal emphasis on having fun and learning the game.
Beyond the coaching, the program serves as a talent identification pathway. Academy scouts attend the clinics to spot players with exceptional potential, who are then invited to formal trial sessions at the academy. This ensures that the academy's recruitment extends beyond those who can afford to travel to Surulere, tapping into the vast talent pool of Lagos' neighborhoods.
"Football is a tool for transformation," said Program Coordinator Mrs. Ada Obi. "Through this outreach, we are telling young people in these communities that their talent matters and that they deserve opportunities. The response has been overwhelming — children travel for miles to attend the clinics, and their hunger to learn is inspiring."
The outreach program also includes community events such as football festivals, where children from across neighborhoods come together for a day of matches, coaching, and celebration. Local leaders and schools have partnered with the academy to mobilize participation and support the initiative.
The academy's coaching staff has reported encouraging early results, with several standout performers already identified at the clinics. These players will join the academy's next trial cohort, with scholarship support available for those who demonstrate exceptional talent.
Corporate partners of the academy have expressed strong interest in supporting the outreach program, recognizing its alignment with their own community development objectives. The academy welcomes additional partners who wish to extend the program to more communities across the state.
The community outreach program reflects OKAKA Football Academy's belief that every child deserves the chance to dream, develop, and succeed — on and off the pitch. It is a core part of the academy's mission to develop the next generation of Nigerian footballers and responsible citizens.
